Developing new weapons, accessories and armor is likewise luck based, equipment that may come appear as pivotal can show up in one campaign, and never occur in another. There are over 100 random events that can occur during a hunt, with further randomization possible in each result from the "big chart." Every time the players enter the settlement phase, they pull from a deck of 20+ (something elike 40 maximum) events that occur, and every settlement phase there is a chance to gain 1-4 technologies/inventions/innovations. Even surviving too long can, essentially, kill you.Ī high level of randomization. Because holy shit will individual characters die a lot. The objective is to make your entire settlement as strong as possible. Singular heroes are unlikely to accomplish much. Technologies, facilities and philosophical concepts are developed and acted on during this phase.Īlso, don't think of this as DnD. After successfully hunting a quarry, the players engage in settlement building which, I'm told, is similar to the game, Civilization. Players (1-6) take the roll of human survivors who guide the development of a settlement in a harsh and unforgiving environment full of monsters and horrible death, nearly literally, around every corner. Kingdom Death Monster (KDM) is a tabletop game that mixes elements of card and miniature games during combat, and a choose your own adventure game as you hunt your quarry. The players awake on an endless plain of stone faces, with completely black darkness beyond the light of the lanterns they awoke with, clutching in their hands. Basically anything above a bug considers humans as potential food at worst, or slaves at best. Humans are weak as hell and are VERY close to the bottom of the food chain in the setting. You ever play Dark Souls? Where humans are, at best, valuable as fodder for keeping the flame that empowered the gods alive and immortal, going? It's worse than that. I don't know if you, random reader of the OGO forum is aware of Kingdom Death Monster, so here's an overview.
